Custom Fields

Overviewโ€‹

Custom fields allows tenant admins to define additonal custom fields on top of the platform's existing asset properties. Once a custom field is created and linked to one or more asset types, it appears whenever those assets are created, edited, and viewed.

Purpose is to allow organization(s) to capture the extra information that matters to them (e.g. an internal asset tag, a warranty-expiry date, a cost center) without needing a platform change.

Activating / Deactivatingโ€‹

You can change the status of a custom field to Active or Inactive. Deactivating a field hides it from the forms and detail pages and also remove its associations with linked asset types, but does not delete the field or its stored data. You can reactivate the field and attach it to asset types again at any time.

In addition to the edit form, you can also change the status of a field from the list view using the row checkboxes and Activate / Deactivate bulk actions.

  1. Navigate to Console โ†’ General Settings โ†’ Custom Fields.
  2. Select one or more fields using the row checkboxes.
  3. Click Activate or Deactivate to change the status of the selected fields.

How Custom Fields Appear on Assetsโ€‹

Once linked, a custom field shows up in two places for its asset type:

  1. Create / Edit forms โ€” a Custom Fields section is appended to the form where users fill in a value for each active, linked field. Required fields must be filled in to submit.

  1. Asset detail page โ€” a Custom Fields section shows the saved values, alongside the asset's other details. This section appears only in full detail views not the compact one.
